35th Annual Everglades Coalition Conference
Regenerative Agriculture, Everglades Restoration, and Combating Climate Change
Saturday, January 11
10:30 AM
South Seas Island Resort
Captiva Island, FL
Breakout Panel Description: Regenerative Agriculture is a system of farming principles and practices that increases biodiversity, enriches soils, improves watersheds, enhances ecosystem services and captures carbon in soil and above-ground biomass, reversing current global trends of atmospheric accumulation. Agroecology is the study of increasing ecological sustainability and social justice in the food and agriculture system. No matter how much land is ultimately acquired for restoration, the remaining agricultural land can and must be, sooner than later, managed in a regenerative, just and equitable, rather than traditional, manner. In this way, in addition to improving the health of the Everglades ecosystem and combating climate change, agricultural land and those who farm it can be protected against public health and development threats.
Moderator: Paul McCullough, Co-Chair of Sierra Club Grassroots Network’s Food and Agriculture Team and Sierra Michigan’s Agricultural Committee Chair

“Sustainable” has long been the rallying cry of agricultural progressives. Stephanie Anderson argues that in order to provide nutrient-rich food and fight climate change, we need to move beyond sustainable to regenerative agriculture, a practice that is highly tailored to local environments and renews resources. Book sales and signing to follow.
"Home Grown: Local Farming" Panel Discussion
Saturday, October 19 at 12:30 PM
New Belgium Brewery
500 Linden St., Fort Collins, CO
The number of farmers markets nationwide increased from 2,000 in 1994 to more than 8,600 in 2019. And that’s not the only indication of the tremendous growth in local and regional food outlets. What is driving consumer demand for locally- grown and produced food? What are the benefits of “eating local”? What challenges are local farmers and food producers facing?
A panel discussion featuring Stephanie Anderson (One Size Fits None), Nic Koontz (Owner/Farmer, Native Hill Farm), and Kayann Short (A Bushel’s Worth: An Ecobiography). Moderated by Matt Stilwell
